Friday, Dec. Today, topless and full body nudity are prevalent not only in films but on beaches around the world — including Kauai. He noted that there were no signs at the top of the trail warning of the beach being clothing optional. But the secluded white sandy area can be reached by hiking a short distance down to the two-mile long stretch of shoreline backed by brush and trees. Another popular spot for those who prefer to leave their swimsuits at home is Secret Beach, also known as Kauapea Beach, north of Kilauea. The long, yellow sand beach offers plenty of space for those who want to feel the freedom of skinny dipping.
What's the present status of nude beaches on Kauai other then it being illegal? I keep hearing conflicting information about Secret and Donkey Beach. With all due respect to kauainude and all the other nudists , I think that court case is quite clear that if there is a complaint, you can get busted--and so there is a definite risk. Ironically, Kalalau is where I have seen the most nudity and the only place I have gone nude , and Ke'e is the only place I've seen a topless woman and that only once. As for offending the locals, sure there is a more conservative trend here, but not among the teenagers and young adults on the beach. Like I said, local families won't be hanging out at the beaches listed above, but still I think Larsen's would be your safest bet, despite the number of people reported on certain days.
My wife and I are going to be in Kauai October st and we are wondering if there are any nude beaches here? I have read online that Larsen's might be the only one. We usually visit Maui and go to Little Beach which is amazing but wanted to see another island this trip. Anyone have any insight to share on where to go? Actually I think it is legal to go topless at any beach in Hawaii.

You won't get any argument from me in regards the missionaries, but IMO - at this point in time - it isn't considered good practice by most people here to disrobe in front of young children not your own at the beach - I am speaking particularly of beaches that front hotel properties or which are heavily used by families - local or otherwise. As far as secluded beaches - and I do realize that this discussion is about them - I personally don't give a hoot what somebody does - I've spent lots of time at Kauapea Beach Secret Beach as well as some time at Larsen's and Donkey Beach - yes, there is plenty of nudity there - does it bother me? I think Kauapea Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches we have and I have noticed that the nudists always seem to stay to the far eastern side of the beach there - you wouldn't even know they were there unless you walked the whole beach.
